Website roadmap & content
When creating a website, defining the roadmap and content is a crucial step to ensure your visitors have a smooth, purposeful journey.
A well-planned roadmap and clear content structure will guide users effortlessly through your site, making it easier for them to take the desired actions, whether it's booking a consultation or learning more about your services.
Create a clear roadmap
Consider the flow you want visitors to follow when they land on your site. For example, if you run a counselling business, think about the logical sequence of pages you want users to visit. A typical flow might look like this:
Home -> Services -> Testimonials -> Book Appointment
This roadmap ensures that visitors first get to know what you offer, read positive feedback from previous clients, and then easily book an appointment. By laying out this flow, you ensure a seamless user experience that leads to conversions.
Identify key pages and content
Next, define the key pages your website needs. In addition to the homepage, common pages might include a Services, About, Testimonials, Blog, and Contact page. For each page, ask yourself: What content should be here? And more importantly, What action do you want users to take?
For example, on your services page, you might want visitors to learn more about what you offer and then take action by filling out a contact form or booking an appointment. This is where a Call To Action (CTA) comes in—this button or link will guide visitors toward the next step in their journey, whether it's booking a session or signing up for a newsletter.
Keep navigation simple
Navigation should be clear and simple, allowing visitors to easily find their way around your site. Limit the number of pages in your navigation bar to ensure a user-friendly experience.
You can have other pages on your site, but consider keeping them out of the main navigation if they’re not critical to the user journey. This will avoid overwhelming visitors and help them focus on your most important pages.
By thoughtfully planning your website’s content and navigation, you’ll create a structure that enhances user experience, drives action, and ultimately supports your business goals.
